David Corenswet, the 32-year-old leading Superman in James Gunn’s reboot, says a wire-harness stunt left him with “the wildest bruise” on his right testicle during production earlier this year. The admission came in a Vanity Fair lie-detector video released on 10 July, where co-star Nicholas Hoult quizzed him about on-set injuries.
Corenswet recalled punching through a glass façade and launching into mid-air only to have the harness “clip me,” a moment he notes is “on film”. Entertainment sites and fan accounts rapidly recut the clip for TikTok and Reddit, sending the phrase “Superman cup” trending worldwide within hours.
Principal photography, which began on 29 February, continued through Atlanta, Cleveland and Cincinnati before wrapping on 30 July, signalling no schedule shift after the mishap. The shoot’s timetable was already under scrutiny after a stunt performer injured his knee during a motorcycle chase last year, briefly pausing work for safety checks. International wire digests in New Zealand and elsewhere folded Corenswet’s anecdote into their coverage, widening discussion about harness design and protective gear on superhero sets.
Warner Bros. says the film will open in U.S. theaters on 11 July 2025, the date announced when cameras first rolled. Ohio’s film office, which awarded the production more than $11 million in tax credits, confirmed the Cleveland-Cincinnati leg finished “incident-free” and credited revised stunt protocols for keeping momentum after the bruise episode. At a Los Angeles fan screening this week, Corenswet joked that “even the Man of Steel could use a better cup,” prompting Hoult to promise one before any sequel takes flight.
