Elon Dershowitz, a film and podcast producer whose credits include Reversal of Fortune and Fallen, died on August 17 at age 64 after a stroke, his family said. News of his death was first reported by Deadline, followed by a family notice and tributes that described a career bridging studio features and digital media.
Dershowitz, the son of attorney Alan Dershowitz, began in the industry under producer Edward R. Pressman, working on Oliver Stone projects before moving into producing. He served as a co-producer on Barbet Schroeder’s 1990 drama Reversal of Fortune and later produced titles including the Denzel Washington thriller Fallen and the courtroom drama The Whole Truth.
Family members said he remained proudest of Reversal of Fortune, which dramatized the Claus von Bülow case that made his father a public figure; they credited Elon with helping champion the adaptation and assemble its creative team. In recent years he produced and co-created The Dershow, a podcast featuring legal commentary and interviews, extending a long-running collaboration with his father.
Those close to him recalled a resilient early life shaped by a childhood brain tumor and lasting vision challenges; relatives said he channeled that experience into work ethic and showmanship, even performing magic for other young patients during treatment. Beyond features, his producing résumé included sports documentaries and television specials, alongside steady freelance work in New York and Los Angeles.
A family obituary said he died surrounded by loved ones and noted his organ donation. Survivors include his father, stepmother Carolyn, siblings and extended family. Funeral services were held in New York on August 19.
