New Line is moving ahead with a seventh Final Destination film, tapping Final Destination: Bloodlines co-writer Lori Evans Taylor to write the new installment, according to Variety. Producers Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Jon Watts, Dianne McGunigle and Toby Emmerich are attached to return, with franchise veteran Warren Zide executive producing.
The move follows the strong performance of Bloodlines, which opened in May at No. 1 and finished as the series’ top earner. Trade tallies put its worldwide total at roughly $285–286 million after a $51 million domestic opening weekend, while the five prior entries collectively kept the franchise’s momentum over 25 years.
Bloodlines arrived 14 years after 2011’s Final Destination 5 and reframed the premise around intergenerational survivors, a shift that helped reintroduce the brand to a new audience without departing from its cause-and-effect suspense mechanics. The film was released theatrically on May 16, 2025, part of Warner Bros.’ broader push to restore mid-budget horror to theaters.
As the franchise returns to active development, New Line continues to treat Final Destination as one of its signature horror banners. Cumulative grosses for the series now approach $1 billion worldwide, ranking behind only The Conjuring universe and the It films on the label’s ledger. That commercial footing, combined with the most recent film’s reception, explains the quick pivot to commission a follow-up with Taylor, who helped shape Bloodlines’ narrative framework.
No casting, director or release timing has been announced. The project is described as in development rather than dated, suggesting the creative team will first refine a concept that can deliver the elaborate set-piece tension that has defined the series since 2000. For now, the studio’s choice signals confidence in the formula and in Taylor’s handle on it after the franchise’s highest-grossing chapter.
