James Gunn has moved to shut down fresh speculation that Robin will appear in The Batman Part II, telling fans on Threads to “stop believing this nonsense” and noting that only a handful of people have read the script. He also dismissed other circulating claims, stressing that the public does not know the story concept for Matt Reeves’ sequel. The comments arrive after a new round of online chatter suggested the Caped Crusader’s longtime partner would join Robert Pattinson’s second outing.
The sequel remains on a long runway. Warner Bros. Discovery told investors this week that the film is gearing up to start production in spring 2026, aiming to meet its October 1, 2027 theatrical date. That timeline follows multiple delays from earlier targets as Reeves finished the script and the studio re-sequenced its calendar. Pattinson is set to return as Bruce Wayne, continuing a storyline that sits outside DC Studios’ main continuity under Gunn and Peter Safran.
Gunn’s intervention underscores the studio’s effort to tamp down rumor cycles around its two-track Batman plans. Reeves’ series exists as a standalone “Elseworlds”-style crime saga, while DC Studios is developing a separate Batman feature, The Brave and the Bold, for its shared universe. Gunn has said casting for that project has not begun and has repeatedly emphasized secrecy around active scripts. In the meantime, the 2022 film remains a sturdy commercial anchor for the character, having earned about $772 million worldwide.
Taken together, the latest update signals that The Batman Part II is advancing on schedule while creative details stay tightly held. Gunn’s remarks do not confirm plot points; they push back on the notion that outsiders have reliable information about who is in the movie, including Robin, as the studio moves the production toward its planned 2026 start.
