Pedro Pascal is in talks to lead Tony Gilroy’s next feature, Behemoth!, a Searchlight Pictures drama centered on a cellist, according to IndieWire. The project marks Gilroy’s return to directing features for the first time since 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, following his recent run overseeing Andor. Talks are not finalized, but multiple trade reports say the deal is trending positively.
Searchlight has boarded to finance and produce, with filming expected to begin this fall in Los Angeles. Gilroy is producing alongside longtime collaborator Sanne Wohlenberg, and Andor cinematographer Damián García is attached, continuing the creative partnership from the series. Oscar Isaac had previously been lined up to star but exited because of scheduling conflicts.
While plot specifics remain under wraps, Gilroy has described the film as a story “about movie music” that follows a prodigy-turned-studio musician and unfolds partly in flashback. He has also indicated the production aims to shoot in Los Angeles with live players, a choice he framed as central to the concept. Those details, paired with Searchlight’s involvement, signal a character-driven piece anchored in the realities of Hollywood scoring.
The prospective casting would extend a busy year for Pascal, who moved through a slate that includes The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Ari Aster’s Eddington, with franchise work continuing into 2026. For Gilroy, Behemoth! advances after months of packaging and financing updates; he has said lessons learned on Andor’s workflow and team communication will carry into the film. Production timelines point to cameras rolling later in 2025, with release plans to be set after principal photography.
