The clip, first attached to the streaming version and later shared on the show’s social accounts, shows the animated Noem entering a pet store and opening fire through frosted glass; a small dog escapes only to be killed outside moments later. The added scene did not air in Comedy Central’s linear broadcast.
The episode had already courted controversy by tying its Noem storyline to a real passage in her 2024 memoir about shooting a puppy she described as untrainable. In a radio interview the day after the broadcast, Noem dismissed the show’s portrayal as “lazy” and “petty,” saying critics were fixated on her appearance rather than policy. Her remarks circulated widely as the alternate cut gained traction online.
The unaired credits tag arrived as interest in the episode surged. Industry tallies indicated the telecast nearly doubled the season premiere’s audience, drawing roughly 838,000 same-day viewers and ranking among the show’s strongest linear performances in recent years. Viewers who watched only the cable airing would not have seen the extended bit until it was posted online and on the series’ streaming home.
The creative choice reflects the show’s long-standing habit of revising or expanding episodes across platforms, particularly when last-minute animation or editorial changes are involved. While the series also lampooned other political figures this season, the Noem segment has dominated post-episode debate, with supporters and detractors pointing to the line between harsh satire and gratuitous shock.
