In a staff memo, NBCUniversal News Group chairman Cesar Conde said the changes are meant to centralize editorial decision-making; Executive Vice President Janelle Rodriguez, who oversees “NBC Nightly News,” NBC News Now and special reports, will now report directly to Blumenstein.
Other direct reports include Marc Greenstein leading Creative Production and Operations, Noreen Gillespie over standards, Sarah Tanner over marketing and David Gelles at “Meet the Press,” while Libby Leist of the “Today” franchise continues to report to Conde.
The move lands as NBC News and MSNBC formalize an editorial separation this month, part of a broader corporate reorganization that will place several cable brands into a new entity, with MSNBC preparing a rebrand to MS Now. The operational uncoupling means MSNBC will no longer rely on NBC News correspondents or crews, a shift timed with staffing and facilities changes across Washington and New York.
NBC News is also advancing new products and distribution strategies that intersect with the reshuffle. The division has been developing a subscription offering and expanding a Sports Hub partnership with NBC Sports, while NBCUniversal recently secured a multiyear carriage agreement with YouTube TV that preserves network reach across linear and streaming bundles. Plans tied to that deal include the return of an NBC Sports cable presence as part of a broader sports distribution push.
