Tim Allen has completed recording his dialogue as Buzz Lightyear for Toy Story 5, marking a major milestone for Pixar’s next installment in the long-running franchise. The actor shared the news in a post on X, saying he had wrapped his part on the film last Friday and that the experience “really affected” him, adding that he feels “blessed” to have worn Buzz’s space suit for so many years.
Allen has voiced Buzz since the original Toy Story premiered in 1995, returning for every feature film and a wide array of specials, shorts and theme-park projects. His latest message was widely read as a personal sign-off on a character he has embodied for three decades, even as work on the movie continues.
Responses to his post capture the divided feelings that have followed the sequel since it was announced. Many fans thanked Allen for voicing a character that has bridged generations in their families, while others admitted they are nervous about another potentially devastating farewell after the endings of Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4. Some questioned whether the series needed a fifth entry at all. Addressing concerns like these earlier this year, director Andrew Stanton said the third film closed the “Andy years” and that audiences who prefer that ending can keep the original trilogy as their personal endpoint.
I did wrap my part in Toy Story 5 Friday. Really affected me. I love these creators and love this story and blessed to be in this wonderful space suit for so many years.

Toy Story 5 is written and directed by Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris and produced by Lindsey Collins. Pixar lists a theatrical release date of 19 June 2026 and describes the sequel as “Toy meets Tech,” with Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of Bonnie’s toys struggling to compete with modern electronics. Recent teaser footage shows the group confronted by Lilypad, a frog-shaped smart tablet that quickly becomes Bonnie’s new favorite, setting up a conflict between classic toys and screen-based play.
Allen previously teased that the new film leans heavily on Jessie, calling it a “Jessie story” that also engineers a reunion between Woody and Buzz and involves a comic subplot built around multiple versions of Buzz. Tom Hanks has already begun recording as Woody, and returning voices including Joan Cusack and Tony Hale are set to join new cast members in a story that aims to connect long-time viewers with a generation growing up in a digital-first world.
