A new teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie debuted during The Game Awards 2025 on Thursday night, giving audiences a quick look at Mario and Luigi squaring off against Bowser Jr. months ahead of the film’s April 3, 2026 theatrical release in the United States. The footage frames Bowser’s son as an immediate physical threat, with Luigi stepping in during the scuffle after Bowser Jr. barrels through the scene.
Nintendo’s official release calendar still pins the sequel for April 3, 2026 in the U.S., followed by an April 24, 2026 opening in Japan, with other territories rolling out across April. The project again pairs Nintendo and Illumination, with Universal Pictures handling worldwide distribution and Universal and Nintendo co-financing.
The clip arrives after Nintendo premiered a full trailer in November and confirmed two major new voice roles: Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. Nintendo and Illumination said more characters and casting will be announced later. The returning voice cast includes Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek).
Producers have positioned the sequel as a space-set escalation timed to Mario’s 40th anniversary. During a Nintendo livestream announcing the title, producer Shigeru Miyamoto asked viewers, “What kinds of adventures do you think Mario and his friends will have in space?” Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri signaled a reference-heavy approach, saying the next film “holds surprises for fans of every Mario era.”
The studio kept tight control of details through staged reveals, after a brief flare-up in May 2025 when a NBCUniversal page appeared to reference “Super Mario World” before that wording disappeared. Now, with a Game Awards beat and an official movie hub listing the April 2026 date, the marketing runway looks set for a steady drip of footage into next year.
