ABC has released the first full trailer for a new version of Scrubs, bringing Zach Braff and Donald Faison back to Sacred Heart as J.D. and Turk ahead of a Feb. 25 premiere that will stream next day on Hulu.
The trailer positions the reboot as a workplace comedy about veteran doctors returning to an altered hospital culture while guiding a fresh class of interns. In a statement released with the series order, creator Bill Lawrence said the show “means so very much” to him and that he is “excited for the chance to get the band back together.”
That “band” includes Sarah Chalke as Elliot, with Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley slated to recur as Carla and Dr. Cox. The official logline describes medicine and interns as changed, while the J.D.-Turk friendship “has stood the test of time.”
In recent interviews tied to the launch, Braff has emphasized that the series is being framed as a fresh “Season 1,” using the end of the original run’s eighth season as the jumping-off point and treating the later “Med School” year as its own offshoot. That approach addresses a long-running fan debate about where the story “really” ended, while keeping the focus on the original trio at the center of the show.
Some familiar faces remain unresolved. Asked about the chances of Dr. Kelso and the Janitor returning, Braff said he hopes to bring them in, but the first nine-episode order was still being finished and he did not want to force them into storylines that do not fit. He pointed to a possible second season as the clearer opportunity.
The revival arrives as legacy sitcoms keep finding new life through streaming and younger audiences. McGinley has credited that generational carryover as a key reason the network felt comfortable reopening the doors.
