Wuthering Heights opened to a strong global debut, grossing $76.8 million worldwide over the weekend, according to studio estimates tracked by Comscore. The new adaptation of Wuthering Heights earned $34.8 million from 3,682 theaters in the United States and Canada, then added $42 million from 76 overseas markets, giving Warner Bros. its biggest opening of 2026 so far.
The launch landed on a Presidents Day/Valentine’s weekend frame, and the studio said the North American total could climb to about $40 million by Monday. With a reported $80 million production budget, the film is positioned to cover its negative cost quickly if the four-day global tally reaches the projected $82 million, before marketing expenses are counted. Key territories still ahead include Japan and Vietnam on Feb. 27 and China on March 13.
Audience data showed a sharp split by region. PostTrak polling put North American ticket buyers at 76% female, while exhibitors reported a more male-leaning crowd outside the U.S. and Canada. The film also posted a notable start in Australia, where it earned A$6.07 million (about $4.3 million) for the weekend, a result analysts linked to the local profile of stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.
The box-office start came with mixed audience signals. Rotten Tomatoes listed the film at 63%, and CinemaScore surveys returned a B grade. PostTrak said 51% of opening-weekend patrons would “definitely recommend” it, a metric distributors and exhibitors watch closely as sales move beyond the holiday frame. Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore’s senior media analyst, called the weekend “solid if not record-breaking” and pointed to the lack of a Marvel Cinematic Universe tentpole as a key market condition.
Among new challengers, animated family title GOAT debuted with an estimated $26 million domestically, while heist thriller Crime 101 started at $15.1 million. With studios leaning on mid-budget event pictures early in the year, theaters will watch how quickly premium screens and prime showtimes tighten once the next wave of releases arrives.
