Pluto TV is adding 250 free movies to its library starting June 29, timed to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. The Paramount-owned, ad-supported streamer is branding the rollout “Americana 2026,” a limited-time category the company says is built around films “rooted in the fabric of American life on screen.”
The lineup spans nine decades of Hollywood, from “12 Angry Men” and both “Godfather” films to war dramas including “Saving Private Ryan” and “The Great Escape,” historical pictures like “Selma” and “The Aviator,” and westerns such as “True Grit” and “The Untouchables.” The titles will sit in a dedicated section of Pluto TV’s program guide, positioned between its existing Movies and Comedy categories, and remain available through July 13.
Pluto TV is pairing the film push with four new linear channels. Pluto TV Hometown Drama will run small-town series including “Hart of Dixie,” “Nashville” and “Everwood.” More TV Drama begins a “Yellowstone” marathon June 30, working through all five seasons so that the show’s fifth season streams free on Pluto TV for the first time on July 5. Pluto TV Military and a Smithsonian Channel Selects channel round out the additions, covering military history and American culture, respectively.
The timing places Pluto TV alongside the broader slate of festivities marking the country’s semiquincentennial, which has included National Mall events and other programming from groups such as America250 throughout the year. For Paramount, the move also doubles as a subscriber-retention play: free, ad-supported streaming has become one of the fastest-growing segments of the television market as viewers balance multiple paid subscriptions.
Pluto TV is not alone in refreshing its catalog for July. Rival free streamer Tubi is rolling out 177 new movies and shows of its own for the month, according to a separate announcement, underscoring how the major ad-supported platforms are competing for the same audience heading into the holiday.
Pluto TV has not said whether any of the 250 titles will leave the platform once the Americana 2026 window closes July 13, or whether the four new linear channels are permanent additions to its lineup.
