Dion was diagnosed with SPS in 2022, a condition that causes severe muscle spasms and rigidity, forcing her to cancel her world tour. The documentary, directed by Irene Taylor and shot by cinematographer Nick Midwig, takes an intimate look at Dion’s journey. One of its most impactful moments includes a 40-minute episode of SPS, which was edited down to just a few minutes for the final cut.
Midwig reflected on the delicate nature of filming these moments, stating, “We both stood back and assessed, like, ‘Are we in the way?'” The filmmakers aimed to respect Dion’s medical needs while authentically capturing her experience.

Taylor noticed that Dion appeared without makeup, her hair in a basic bun, presenting a true and accurate appearance. The documentary addresses Dion’s concerns about being misunderstood, particularly her show cancellations. Taylor explained, “She was afraid people would not believe her. She was worried that these cancellations would make it appear that she wasn’t dedicated to her fans.”
The collaboration between Dion and Taylor began unexpectedly during the pandemic, with initial meetings held over Zoom. Producer Leisl Copland played a key role in connecting them, leading to a project that is both deeply personal and widely relatable.
