Ryan Coogler and artist Mary Corse will be honored at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s 14th Art+Film Gala on November 1, the museum said, an edition that arrives ahead of the planned 2026 opening of LACMA’s new Peter Zumthor–designed building. The event remains co-chaired by trustee Eva Chow and Leonardo DiCaprio. Proceeds support LACMA’s film-centered programming along with exhibitions, acquisitions, and education. Gucci returns as presenting sponsor.

LACMA director and CEO Michael Govan framed the honorees’ contributions as complementary across disciplines. “Mary Corse has continually expanded the possibilities of painting,” he said in a statement, noting Ryan Coogler’s impact on screen storytelling.

Coogler’s selection follows a strong year for the filmmaker. “Sinners,” his Southern-set vampire thriller released in April, posted a $48 million domestic opening weekend and has now topped $365 million worldwide, adding to a resume that includes “Black Panther,” “Creed,” and “Fruitvale Station.”

Corse, based in Topanga Canyon and long associated with Southern California’s Light and Space movement, is known for subtly reflective, white-on-white surfaces achieved with glass microspheres layered over acrylic. Her decades-spanning “White Light” series plays with perception, shifting as viewers move across the work.

The gala has become a key fundraiser and crossover moment between Hollywood and the visual arts. Last year’s event raised $6.4 million for the museum and featured a slate of film and art honorees whose names now form a roster of past recipients that includes filmmakers from Park Chan-wook to Martin Scorsese and artists from Judy Baca to James Turrell.
