Since its launch in October of 2022, Overwatch 2 has faced its fair share of controversies. Despite the excitement that came with its release, many players were left feeling underwhelmed by the monetization strategy and lack of compelling events. However, what really raised eyebrows were some of the design decisions that had been made.
But fear not, because the developers at Blizzard have heard the concerns of the community and are already in the process of making changes.
For those who may not be aware, Overwatch 2 is a free hero shooter game that has brought back all the maps from its 2016 predecessor, with the addition of new maps and an entirely new game mode.
One issue that players had with the game was the seasonal rotation of maps, which meant that not all maps were available at all times.
According to Blizzard, this decision was made to keep the game fresh and give each season its own special feeling. However, players were left feeling frustrated as their favorite maps were rotated out of the main game.
But good news is on the horizon! In a recent post on the official Blizzard Entertainment forums, Overwatch 2 Director Aaron Keller confirmed that they will be removing the map rotation starting with Season 4. By doing so, players can now enjoy their favorite maps without any limitations.
In a recent blog post, Aaron Keller, the manager of Overwatch 2, spoke about the possibility of incorporating rotating maps in the future.
He mentioned that this would bring a new level of excitement to the game, as the settings would change more frequently, potentially every week, as opposed to just rotating every season.
However, he acknowledged that some players have expressed a preference for playing on a particular map due to matchmaking. The game tries to balance this by bringing players back to maps and game modes they haven’t played in a while.
Unfortunately, the Push mode, which made its debut in the sequel, currently has a limited number of maps. This is why Colosseo, New Queen Street, and Esperança are played more frequently. But Aaron is optimistic that this situation will change in the future with the addition of new maps and game modes.
