In a recent online press conference, Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the swirling rumors about a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Contrary to the speculation that had been gaining traction online, Furukawa firmly denied that a new console would be shown.
The rumors had pointed to a possible unveiling of a new Nintendo Switch model at closed-door presentations during Gamescom 2023, which took place from August 23-27, 2023.
Despite acknowledging that a successor to the Switch is in the works, Furukawa provided no details about the console or its potential reveal date. Instead, he emphasized that the information circulating online about a new console being presented was not accurate.
The focus for Nintendo remains on the current Switch, which has seen a successful year with significant sales in both hardware and software.
The financial report for the fiscal year ending in March 2024 highlighted this success, with notable titles such as “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” shipping 19.5 million units worldwide.
Looking ahead, Nintendo’s slate for the upcoming year is filled with exciting releases, including “Princess Peach: Showtime!”, a remake of “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door”, a new “Mario vs. Donkey Kong” title, and an HD port of “Luigi’s Mansion 2”. The year will also see the release of a remake of “Super Mario RPG”, alongside the recently launched “Super Mario Bros. Wonder”, and “WarioWare: Move It!”.
