The festive season in the world of Diablo IV takes a dark and thrilling turn with the introduction of the Midwinter Blight event. Announced at BlizzCon 2023, this first holiday event for Diablo IV starts on December 12 and invites players to engage in a chilling battle against the forces of the Red-Cloaked Horror. Set in the snowy expanse of Fractured Peaks, players will decorate Kyovashad’s town square for the holidays while fending off malevolent minions.
The event, intriguingly limited to seasonal characters, begins with a visit to Gileon the bard in Kyovashad. He sets players on a quest to brave the cold, collect Blighted Fragments from monstrous Blightfiends, and recover lost heirlooms from gruesome remains.
These Blightfiends, embodying a sinister take on winter festivities, summon the Red-Cloaked Horror, a goatman in red reminiscent of the European folklore figure Krampus. Defeating this formidable foe rewards players with a special title, adding a sense of accomplishment to the holiday challenge.
Festive Rewards and Legendary Aspects
In true Diablo fashion, the Midwinter Blight event offers a trove of special rewards. By turning in Blighted Fragments and Lost Heirlooms, players can claim a variety of cosmetic prizes, including class-specific back trophies, a mount trophy, and a new Legendary aspect, the Shard of the Dawn.
This powerful item enhances players’ efficiency in battling Blightfiends. Additionally, a new potion, Gileon’s Brew, boosts maximum life, increases lucky hit chance, and augments XP gains, aiding players in their festive endeavors.

Running from December 12 to January 2, the Midwinter Blight event overlaps with Diablo IV’s ongoing Abbatoir of Zir event, aimed at max-level seasonal characters.
The latter has garnered attention for its initial extreme difficulty, prompting Blizzard to implement significant nerfs to make it more accessible and less punishing for players.
Blizzard is not resting on its laurels with these events. The development team is hard at work on Diablo IV’s first expansion, “Vessel of Hatred,” slated for release in late 2024. This expansion promises to introduce a new class and revisit iconic locations from Diablo II, ensuring that the Diablo IV experience continues to grow and evolve.
