Splinter Cell Remake Resurfaces as Ubisoft Toronto Teases Ahead of Forward Event

Splinter Cell fans may finally get their first substantial update on the long-awaited remake, as signs are pointing to potential news at Ubisoft’s upcoming Forward showcase. Eagle-eyed observers spotted Ubisoft Toronto updating its official Facebook page with new profile and cover photos giving a subtle nod to the Splinter Cell franchise.

While not an outright confirmation, the social media activity certainly suggests the developer could have new details to share on the Splinter Cell Remake at the Forward event on June 10th. It would mark the first major reveal since the project’s announcement back in 2021.

Previous updates have been extremely scant, with Ubisoft acknowledging in 2022 that the remake’s release was still “years away” as the entire game is being rebuilt from the ground up using the Snowdrop Engine. According to job listings, the remake will feature a rewritten story aimed at modernizing the narrative for contemporary audiences while maintaining the spirit of the original’s thriller premise.

In the announcement trailer, producer Matt West assured fans that the linear, stealth-focused gameplay core fans loved would remain intact, stating, “we’re going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world.”

The extended development cycle suggests Ubisoft is taking a meticulous, ambitious approach to reviving one of its most beloved franchises. With a scant release pipeline having impacted profits, showcasing a marquee remake could help reignite excitement and confidenceamongst stakeholders.

Of course, the Facebook image updates could merely be a innocuous nod rather than an intentional tease. But after years of silence, Splinter Cell fans are undoubtedly hoping that this recent activity foreshadows the return of grizzled spy Sam Fisher in a remade classic optimized for modern hardware.
