Emmy-winning actress Kate Winslet will take on her next gripping lead role in an upcoming Hulu series called “The Spot.” The thriller was created by acclaimed screenwriter Ed Solomon and gained a direct pickup order from the streaming service. Winslet will play a successful surgeon embroiled in mystery alongside her schoolteacher husband.
As production begins, Winslet is tackling another complex character after major successes on television. She won an Emmy for “Mare of Easttown” on HBO and starred in their series “The Regime.” Though she rose to fame through film, her recent small screen performances have drawn wide acclaim. Winslet said she enjoys exploring layered characters over several episodes.
In “The Spot,” Winslet’s surgeon may have caused a hit-and-run accident that killed a child. She and her husband then embark on an investigation riddled with distrust and hidden secrets. Solomon will write and executive produce the series through his overall deal with A24 Studios and 20th Television. Winslet also serves as an executive producer under her own company Juggle Productions.
Beyond “The Spot,” Winslet has two other major projects upcoming. She will star in and co-produce the HBO limited series “Trust” from director Todd Haynes. Winslet also appears as war photographer Lee Miller in the biopic “Lee” scheduled for theaters in September. With its award-winning performers and production companies, “The Spot” promises thought-provoking drama when it debuts on Hulu.
