Netflix will bring the suspenseful games of its hit TV show Squid Game to life with a new attraction opening in New York City in October. Called “Squid Game: The Experience,” the live event will challenge visitors to compete in tasks resembling some of the deadly competitions from the series. These include the nerve-wracking “Red Light, Green Light” game that gripped viewers worldwide.
The Manhattan Mall will house the experience, with Netflix recreating the tension and stakes of Squid Game’s cutthroat matches. Participants will face off under the watchful eye of the recognizable “Front Man” character, navigating a series of trials meant to mimic the dramatic and often life-threatening games featured in the program. Safety measures will be top priority to avoid any real danger.
In addition to competing in Squid Game-inspired activities, the attraction will offer Korean cuisine, snacks and cocktails, allowing guests to indulge in authentic flavors as they tour the venue. A “Squid Mart” area will also sell merchandise, collectibles and let fans take pictures at theme-based photo opportunities.
Squid Game: The Experience will have sessions from Thursday through Monday each week starting October 11th. Tickets go on sale August 21st for both individuals and groups eager to immerse themselves in the world of Squid Game.
Following the success of a similar Los Angeles event last year called “Squid Game: The Trials,” Netflix plans to expand these live experiences globally with new locations coming later this year in Europe and Asia. All will coincide with the debut of Squid Game Season 2 after the 2022 holiday season. A third season and spin-off reality competition show are also reportedly in development.
Netflix’s move to grow its live attraction offerings aligns with the company’s broader strategy to create permanent destinations engaging fans on a deeper level. By 2024, Netflix plans to open permanent “Netflix Houses” in Pennsylvania and Texas hosting various live experiences inspired by top shows like Squid Game, Bridgerton and Stranger Things, along with dining, retail and photo opportunities.
As Netflix continues innovating and diversifying, Squid Game: The Experience represents a significant step to translate on-screen successes into real-world engagements, enhancing viewer involvement and providing novel ways to interact with beloved titles.
