Cast member Ken Jeong has revealed that a finished script is ready for the much-anticipated “Community” movie, which is moving quickly. During a recent interview with TV Insider, Jeong, best known for playing the odd Ben Chang on the popular NBC sitcom, expressed his emotional reaction to the script.
Jeong said, “It made me emotional and brought me right back,” but he wouldn’t say more because it was against the law. He said that plans are in place, but the exact time of the movie is still unknown. “There is a script and a plan.” He said, “We just don’t know when it will happen.” Once the date is set, Jeong thinks the experience will be “magical and real emotional.”
Peacock officially announced the movie in September 2022, ending a long-running fan campaign that goes along with the phrase “six seasons and a movie.” The original series ran from 2009 to 2015 and gained a loyal following that is still strong years after it ended. That’s why Jeong said, “When the show was on the air, we had the most devoted fans of any project I’ve ever done.”
Except for Chevy Chase, who left the series during its fourth season after a public fight with Harmon, most of the original cast members have decided to come back, according to series creator Dan Harmon. Harmon stressed how important it was to get the cast back together meaningfully. He told The Hollywood Reporter, “Seeing those people see each other is the most important thing.”
Harmon also expressed a strong sense of responsibility to the show’s fans, thanking them for sticking with it through many problems. “That’s the fandom that’s been the most supportive of me and has endured the most,” he stated. He says, “I don’t want to do it wrong, and it is truly terrifying.” He feels a lot of pressure to live up to their standards.
The original “Community” series followed a study group at the made-up Greendale Community College. The cast was very good, with Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, and Yvette Nicole Brown all standing out. The show, known for its unique mix of meta-humor and touching character growth, ended its run on Yahoo! Screen after six great years.
