Bronwyn Newport, who stars in Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” is recovering from a devastating dog attack that left her with 37 bite wounds and a shattered bicep. The tragedy in April 2023 inspired Newport to promote safe pet ownership and animal care.
The attack happened during a seemingly regular excursion to a nearby park. While walking her dog, Newport came across a foster dog who appeared calm and unattended. However, the scenario rapidly became perilous when she reached out to pet it.
“I totally lost my mind, and I honestly think I made it worse,” Newport told People Magazine. She recalled how the dog began surrounding her before unexpectedly attacking. The dog bit her several times, focusing on her legs and right arm. The violence was only halted when a spectator interfered.
Newport had medical treatment for her injuries, which included multiple bite marks and a shattered bicep. She was admitted to the hospital, where physicians patched up wounds on her arm and leg.
Newport and her husband, Todd Bradley, made a surprise and compassionate decision not to pursue legal action against the dog’s owners. They discovered that the dog had an underlying medical problem that influenced its behavior and decided to pay for its care and rehabilitation.
“We wanted to ensure the dog received proper care and could be placed in a suitable home,” Newport told me. Bravo series fans have appreciated this response.
The incident occurred during the show’s fifth season, which has been riddled with turmoil, including the conviction of cast member Jen Shah for fraud in 2023.
As Newport continues to recuperate, her experience emphasizes the unpredictability of animal relationships and the significance of careful pet ownership. Her conscientious approach has sparked admiration on social media, with many applauding her decision not to seek euthanasia for the dog.
Overall, Newport’s story is a compelling reminder of the importance of compassion in the face of suffering.
