By getting the lead role in Uwe Boll’s upcoming vigilante thriller The Dark Knight, Armie Hammer is making a big comeback to Hollywood. The movie will start being made in Croatia on January 27.
Hammer portrays Sanders, a vigilante who becomes famous on social media for his fight against crime in the film. The story is about how Sanders’s support from the people and the police chief’s efforts to stop him from doing illegal things are at odds with each other.
This choice is a big step in Hammer’s return to the screen after a break that began in 2021 because of sexual misconduct claims. Following a thorough probe, prosecutors in Los Angeles chose not to bring charges against him in 2023. Hammer just finished shooting the western Frontier Crucible, which Travis Mills directed. He starred with experienced actors Thomas Jane and William H. Macy.
Hammer recently talked about how happy he is with his work in a podcast. And he said, “My dance card’s getting pretty full.” This means he has started to turn down roles. It was the best feeling I’ve ever had when I turned down that first job after four years of this crap.
Director Uwe Boll, who is also known for films like In the Name of the King and The Rampage Trilogy, highlighted the film’s current themes. He was excited about working with the cast and said, “The story of The Dark Knight couldn’t be more current.”
Boll will be directing his 37th film, which will add to his wide range of work, including action movies and stories important to society. Executive producer Michael Roesch said, “Our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion.” He was addressing possible confusion with Christopher Nolan’s well-known Batman film. Roesch was optimistic about the project and pointed to recent hits like First Shift and Run, the latter of which is now talking about U.S. release.
Boll’s regular partners, such as cinematographer Mathias Neumann and editor Ethan Maniquis, are on the production team. Tunnel Post in Santa Monica handles post-production.
Hammer had notable roles in films like The Lone Ranger, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and the Oscar-winning Call Me by Your Name before taking a break from acting. Inquiries about Hammer’s most recent role received no response from Hammer representatives.
