Peacock’s The Traitors won Outstanding Reality Competition Program at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles, topping The Amazing Race, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Survivor and Top Chef. The series, hosted by Alan Cumming, filmed in a Scottish castle, has contestants known as Faithfuls attempting to expose hidden Traitors while building a prize pot.
Accepting the award, Cumming thanked voters and viewers: “Thank you to the Academy… we really appreciate it,” and saluted fans who host Traitors parties and “dress up as me.” He also praised “our crazy cast” and joked about the “oxymoronic” Scottish summer before noting the show’s aim to bring “a little bit of joy.”
The victory marks a repeat for The Traitors, which also won this category last year. Its week included multiple Creative Arts Emmys: Alan Cumming earned Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program, while the show was recognized for directing, picture editing for a structured reality or competition program, and cinematography for a reality program.
The Traitors has emerged as a breakout for Peacock, pairing social deduction with cinematic staging and location-driven challenges. The format pits a small group of Traitors working in secret against a larger group of Faithfuls, who can split the winnings only if all Traitors are eliminated by the end. If a single Traitor survives, that player claims the pot.
