Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg won the Directors Guild of America’s 2026 award for outstanding directing in a comedy series for The Studio, and used their acceptance speech to honor late castmate Catherine O’Hara after her death last month. The pair received the prize for the episode “The Oner,” according to the guild’s winners list.
In remarks reported by Deadline and repeated by other outlets, Rogen told the room that “there’s no one we wish we could thank in person … more than … Catherine O’Hara,” then praised her as a rare talent who treated colleagues with warmth while delivering at the highest level. Goldberg called her “quite literally our idol since we were children,” pointing back to the duo’s Canadian upbringing and early exposure to her work.
O’Hara died on Jan. 30 in Los Angeles at 71 after a brief illness, her representative said. Her last public appearance came at the Sept. 14, 2025 Emmy Awards, where she joined the cast onstage when The Studio won outstanding comedy series.
The show, which streams on Apple TV+, cast O’Hara as a veteran studio figure and mentor to Rogen’s character, and it became one of her final screen projects, according to Entertainment Weekly. In recent days, tributes have continued from collaborators across film and television, including Michael Keaton, who remembered her in public remarks as a comic “goddess.”
The DGA award also spotlights the behind-the-scenes team credited beside Rogen and Goldberg, including the unit production manager and assistant directors listed by the guild, a reminder that TV directing relies on tight set logistics as much as creative choices.
