Apple TV+ has pulled The Studio from its planned press-day event in Santa Monica after the death of cast member Catherine O’Hara, who died Jan. 30 at 71 following a brief illness, according to her representatives. The streamer had scheduled the show for a panel on Tuesday, Feb. 3, timed to promote what had been positioned as a preview of the comedy’s second season, now in production.
The panel was set to feature series stars Seth Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn and Chase Sui Wonders; O’Hara was not listed to appear. Apple had planned the appearance as part of its annual effort to sell press and industry on the year ahead, a setting that typically mixes talent chats, first looks, and strategy messaging. On-screen, the series centers on a newly installed studio head and his executive team as they juggle corporate pressure and creative ambition at a fictional company called Continental Studios.
Rogen publicly mourned O’Hara after news broke, praising her work and presence on set, while Apple TV+ and Lionsgate, the show’s producer, issued a joint statement calling her an “undeniable legend” and extending condolences to her family.
O’Hara played Patty Leigh, a former studio chief whose relationship with the lead character helped shape the show’s internal power dynamics. Production on season two began in January, and the company has not said how the series will handle her absence going forward. The loss also hits a performer whose work spanned decades and crossed generations, from Schitt’s Creek to Home Alone, leaving Apple and the show’s team balancing a marketing calendar against a moment of genuine grief.
