Swiped Trailer Sets Hulu Date as Lily James Plays Bumble Founder

The first trailer for Swiped introduces Lily James as Whitney Wolfe Herd and sets a September 19 U.S. streaming launch on Hulu after a September 9 premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The footage frames Wolfe Herd’s break from Tinder and the creation of Bumble through a tech-industry drama that zeroes in on user safety and accountability, including a blunt acknowledgment of unsolicited explicit images that fueled a push for women-first design.

Directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg, the film is written by Goldenberg with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele and produced by Jennifer Gibgot, Andrew Panay and James. Cast members include Dan Stevens, Myha’la, Jackson White and Ben Schnetzer. Studio materials note a parallel rollout on Disney+ in international territories.

The story tracks Wolfe Herd from early success at Tinder to a public split and a new platform built around a simple rule inversion: women initiate the first message. The trailer emphasizes boardroom clashes and the debate over moderation as growth accelerates, positioning the narrative within the last decade’s app boom and its cultural fallout.

Beyond the biopic appeal, the release lands as Bumble retools its business under Wolfe Herd’s renewed leadership, highlighting a broader pivot to “friend-finding” features and a restructuring aimed at streamlining operations. The company has outlined cost cuts and plans to relaunch its Bumble For Friends app, contextualizing the film’s arrival amid real-world strategy shifts at the brand depicted on screen.

Swiped is a 20th Century Studios title with a 110-minute runtime; principal photography took place in Los Angeles last year. The project was first reported in trades in 2024 as James boarded to star and produce, with the new trailer consolidating key creative details ahead of the festival debut.
