Newly published in the IGN USA editorial pages is a very long interview with Arkane, the development team in charge of Redfall. And it was precisely about the Microsoft exclusive where many new details were revealed.
A major topic of the interview is about the story of Redfall, which may not undergo major upheavals based on the player’s actions and, thus, will only offer one and only one ending. That does not mean that the choices made during the course of the story will be useless, as we will be able to see different dialogues between characters based on previous actions.
Developers have been working on a dynamic dubbing system whereby lines of dialogue can be combined together to give rise to unique line exchanges for each character. In this respect, it was confirmed that character choice cannot be changed during the course of the game, though players will be given the opportunity to create numerous heroes, including identical ones.
In this way it will be possible, for example, to have a Devinder for co-op and one for single player. In addition, there will not be any limitations in the choice of the character to be used in co-op and, contrary to what the team decided in the initial stages of development, there can also be all players with the same hero in the game.
Still on the subject of the co-op mode, it has been confirmed that progress in the story will be recorded only for the host of the match, but all the finds in terms of equipment and unlocked upgrades won’t be lost in any way, similar to what we have seen in the last Far Cry.
Developers also talked about the character progression system, who will feature skill trees with ramifications that will confront players with very specific choices in terms of build construction. Also the arsenal will become increasingly powerful with the addition of weapons of increasing rarity which will be critical in facing the most skilled vampires.
The team has also talked about the stealth feature, which will have an important role in the game’s economy despite not being a stealth-focused title. It appears that remaining in the shadows is not always the best strategy, but can be crucial to avoid the most dangerous encounters or to avoid death when the protagonist is seriously injured.
The existence of modifiers was also announced during the interview, which will be offered regularly even after release and through which players will be able to approach the game in a different way than usual.
