Warner Bros. stated on Friday that “The Batman” will have a sequel on October 1, 2027. The highly awaited film directed by Matt Reeves has experienced its second delay. The film was pushed back to 2026 earlier this year after being set to come out in October 2025.
Robert Pattinson will play the superhero again. As Reeves continues to polish the script, the production is expected to start in the third quarter of 2025.
James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, talked to fans on Threads’ social media site about their worries about the long wait. He told us, “Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write.” He also said that once the script is done, pre-production, shooting, and post-production for big movies usually take two years.
According to Gunn, the five-year gap between Batman pictures is comparable to that of other popular series. He said, “There were 7 years between ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens,’ 14 years between ‘The Incredibles,’ and 36 years between ‘Top Gun’ movies.”
Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled mystery will be shown on October 2, 2026, instead of that date. Tom Cruise plays “the most powerful man in the world” in this film from Warner Bros. and Legendary. His character has to show that he is the Messiah of all people before he causes a disaster. Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed are also in the group.
Warner Bros. also said two other big projects would have new release dates. The movie “Mickey 17,” which stars Robert Pattinson and was directed by Bong Joon Ho, will come out on March 7, 2025. The new date for Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” which stars Michael B. Jordan, is April 18, 2025. People in the business say that the delay in “Sinners” was caused by production problems caused by Coogler’s decision to shoot on film and the lack of processing facilities.
The plot of “The Batman 2” is still a secret, but Reeves has revealed that Colin Farrell will return as The Penguin. This is the second time the character has been seen since he was in a streaming series. The sequel is expected to continue Reeves’ “Batman Epic Crime Saga,” which will take place in a world separate from the DC Universe.
