Starz has set August 8 2025 for the launch of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, with a two‑episode debut and weekly installments to follow. The premiere was introduced Monday at a Los Angeles screening that united original star Graham McTavish, author Diana Gabaldon and the new ensemble.
During the event showrunner Matthew B Roberts confirmed the prequel has already secured a second season, calling the order a vote of confidence in expanding the franchise beyond Jamie and Claire.
Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy head the cast as Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, while Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine portray Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, creating parallel love stories across the Highlands and World War I Europe.
Roy told reporters that joining an established universe with such “passionate fans” feels “lucky and privileged,” a sentiment echoed by Slater who said the romance drives the drama. Original characters will appear in younger incarnations, including Colum and Dougal MacKenzie, with Sam Retford stepping into the latter role first made famous by McTavish.
Production began in Glasgow in January 2024, paused for storm damage, and wrapped that July after location work at Doune Castle, the real‑world stand‑in for Castle Leoch. The first season runs ten episodes and was already shooting its second season this summer, keeping crews in Scotland even before audiences have seen the opening chapter.
Starz will air new episodes Fridays at 8 p.m. ET in the United States, with Canadian broadcasts an hour later. The network’s strategy mirrors its handling of the flagship series, which enters its eighth and final season in early 2026, ensuring a seamless hand‑off that keeps the Outlander audience engaged year‑round.
