Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Masters of the Universe has added Kristen Wiig as the voice of Roboto, the heroic mechanical warrior from Mattel’s classic franchise. The casting comes as the film moves through post-production under director Travis Knight for an exclusive theatrical release on June 5, 2026.
Wiig’s role marks a gender-flipped take on a character traditionally portrayed as male across toys and animation. Roboto originated in the 1980s toy line and minicomics as a Man-At-Arms creation endowed with a mechanical heart, a detail that has often positioned the character as a stalwart ally of He-Man. The production has not disclosed how closely the film will follow that backstory.
The film stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man and Jared Leto as Skeletor, with Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. The ensemble also includes Morena Baccarin, James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley, Sasheer Zamata, and others. Amazon previously confirmed Knight as director and set the date after taking the project over from Netflix in 2024.
Production began in London in January and wrapped in June, positioning the movie for a long post-production runway ahead of its summer release. Plot specifics remain under wraps, though studio materials have described a story centered on Adam reclaiming his destiny and returning to Eternia to face Skeletor. The Roboto casting signals continued emphasis on recognizable characters from the wider Masters canon alongside He-Man and his core allies.
Studio partners on the film are Mattel Studios and Escape Artists, with distribution by Amazon MGM in the U.S. and Sony Pictures Releasing internationally. With Wiig joining as Roboto, the production adds a high-profile voice performance to a cast that mixes franchise veterans of genre fare and first-time entrants to the world of Eternia. The film remains slated for a wide global rollout in theaters.
