The BFI London Film Festival opens Oct. 8 with the international premiere of Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and closes Oct. 19 with Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights of Hero, bookending a program that spans 247 titles from 79 countries and an expanded industry slate focused on immersive work. Festival materials confirm dates, banner selections and nationwide screenings through partner venues, with tickets rolling out via staggered sales since mid-September.

Programming reflects a mix of high-profile premieres and formally adventurous cinema. Lineup announcements point to new entries from filmmakers including Chloé Zhao and Bradley Cooper, alongside competition titles and strand showcases that push across fiction, documentary and series. Curators have emphasized geographic breadth and first-time directors, with six feature world premieres and a larger pool of debuts threaded throughout the schedule.

Beyond the red-carpet films, organizers are spotlighting industry engagement. This year introduces an LFF Expanded Industry Day on Oct. 15 at the Southbank Centre, bringing XR, immersive and gaming projects into a works-in-progress showcase with talks and networking aimed at bridging film and interactive communities. The forum sits alongside the festival’s regular market-adjacent events and public Screen Talks, designed to connect visiting talent with UK audiences.

Preview coverage has framed the 69th edition as a hinge between autumn’s earlier circuit and year-end awards positioning, with several Venice and Toronto titles continuing their European momentum into London. Local guides have also flagged a handful of buzzy picks—from Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice to first features and politically charged documentaries—underscoring the festival’s role as both a popular showcase and a bellwether for critics and distributors scouting late-season releases.

The schedule’s logistics remain central to the festival’s UK-wide remit. Booking timelines and extra ticket drops have been outlined by partner venues, and the festival homepage stresses a hybrid model of central London gala venues with regional screenings, aiming to widen access while keeping the flagship premieres concentrated around the South Bank and West End hubs.
