Prime Video has canceled Gen V, the superhero college drama spun off from The Boys, after two seasons — pulling the plug on the show six months after its sophomore finale aired in October 2025 and as the parent series races toward its own conclusion.
The series suffered an enormous blow during the production of its second season when star Chance Perdomo died in a motorcycle accident in March 2024, significantly delaying filming. The cast and crew finished the season anyway, and it debuted in September 2025 to solid initial numbers. When Gen V Season 2 premiered with its first three episodes, it drew 424 million minutes viewed, enough to land at number 8 on the Nielsen streaming top 10 originals chart. It only cracked the top ten one more time that season, which likely spooked Prime Video — particularly given the show’s considerable production costs.
Set at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, where young people with superpowers trained for a shot at joining the corporate-controlled superhero team The Seven, Gen V carved out its own satirical identity within the franchise. The series holds a 94% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, with its first season earning 97% from critics and the second drawing 91%. Audience enthusiasm was more measured, with fans giving it a 74% rating.
Signs of the cancellation had been circulating. Star Asa Germann recently landed a series regular role on the upcoming Paramount+ show Frisco King, the kind of move actors typically make once a show’s future is clearly settled.
Executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg stopped short of a full goodbye, saying in a statement: “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”
That promise carries real weight. Gen V’s season two finale saw its main characters recruited into the resistance against Vought and Homelander, with several cast members already appearing in the fifth and final season of The Boys, which wraps May 20. Beyond that, the prequel series Vought Rising started production in August 2025 and is slated for a 2027 debut, and The Boys: Mexico remains in development, though it has not yet been officially greenlit.
