“Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints,” an eight-episode docudrama series about the lives of Christian saints, will premiere on Fox Nation this Sunday, November 17. The series is directed by the famous director Martin Scorsese.
The series is Scorsese’s most in-depth look at religious topics to date. It features dramatic recreations of extraordinary people who showed amazing faith throughout history. The first four episodes cover two thousand years and will air every week until December 8. The rest of the shows will come out during the Holy season in the spring of 2025.
“I’ve lived with the stories of the saints for most of my life,” Scorsese said, putting the project in a personal context. The show will focus on eight people from different times in history who had to deal with big problems while staying true to their faith beliefs.
In the first episodes, Liah O’Prey will bring to life the powerful stories of holy figures like Joan of Arc. The series is set by the young French farmer’s daughter who led troops and was killed in the end. John the Baptist (played by Yahya Mahayni), Roman soldier Sebastian (Lorenzo De Moor), and Maximilian Kolbe, the Franciscan monk who died in Auschwitz (Milivoje Obradović), are some of the other saints who appear in the movie.
Fox Nation thinks the show is a great addition to its material. Jason Klarman, the platform’s chief digital and marketing officer, said of the project, “having the greatest storyteller tell some of the greatest stories of all time.”
The show was created by Matti Leshem and developed by Lionsgate Alternative Television. Kent Jones writes the episodes, and Elizabeth Chomko directs them. Several production groups, such as Halcyon Studios and Sikelia Productions, have collaborated on the project.
Scorsese is still working on big movie projects like “The Wager” and a possible biopic of Frank Sinatra. However, he is also still committed to exploring deep spiritual ideas. At the 2024 Turin Film Festival, he said, “I still have more films to make, and I hope God gives me the strength to make them.” This showed that he was still very interested in making movies.
The last four shows, set to air in 2025, will tell the stories of Francis of Assisi, Thomas Becket, Mary Magdalene, and Moses the Black. This will be Scorsese’s full look at faith throughout history.
