MGM+ rolled out Vanished on Feb. 1, launching a four-episode mystery drama led by Kaley Cuoco and Sam Claflin. The limited series opens in Paris, where Alice Monroe travels for a romantic reunion with boyfriend Tom Parker, then watches her trip turn into a crisis when he disappears during a train ride south, leaving her to chase answers in a country she barely knows.
In an interview with TheWrap, Cuoco said she keeps returning to mysteries because she likes playing a character whose world “is spinning” while she reacts in real time. She framed the hook in personal terms: the terror of learning a partner may have lied for years, and the uncomfortable question of what you would forgive once the truth lands.
Claflin described the premise as a reversal of the usual missing-woman setup and stressed that Alice reads as “very normal,” which he said helps the danger feel close to home. He pointed to Alice’s day job as an archaeologist as a practical edge—someone trained to search, notice, and “unearth” secrets—while still sounding like a person who can be rattled. He also said the scripts thread small beats of comedy to keep the tension from turning leaden.
Cuoco, who also executive produces, said she wanted a real voice on set while working abroad, and that Claflin signing on made the project “extra special.” Claflin returned the compliment, calling her grounded and crediting her for setting a tone that kept cast and crew aligned.
The series comes from creators David Hilton and Preston Thompson, with Barnaby Thompson directing. It was shot in France, including Marseille, and Prime Video plans a Feb. 27 drop of all four episodes in the U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, while MGM+ is releasing episodes weekly in the U.S. and several other markets.
