NBC is moving “The Traitors” from streamer fame to broadcast prime time, ordering a civilian edition of the reality competition series with Alan Cumming returning as host.
The broadcaster said the new version will feature everyday contestants rather than the celebrity-heavy casts seen on Peacock, with production slated to begin in 2026 and a premiere date to be announced. Episodes are expected to air on NBC and stream on Peacock, extending the franchise’s reach beyond its streaming base.
Core elements of the format remain intact: players gather at a Highland castle, complete missions to build a prize pot, and attempt to identify the hidden “Traitors” before they’re “murdered” from the game. The NBC run is set to keep the Scottish setting and Cumming’s stylized hosting, aligning the U.S. broadcast edition with international versions that already rely on non-celebrity casts.
The move follows a strong run for the franchise, which has become a breakout in the U.S. while thriving in the U.K., and has drawn awards attention along the way. Strategically, a novices-only season also serves as talent discovery for NBCUniversal’s unscripted pipeline, potentially feeding future personalities across NBC, Peacock, and Bravo series.
Casting is open to the public, with NBC touting the chance to find “legendary gamers and schemers.” Studio Lambert, which produces the format, framed the shift to everyday players as a way to make the gameplay less predictable. Cumming will continue as the on-camera face of the franchise as production gears up.
